Yoga for Healthy Lower Backs – 12 week course

The next YHLB 12 week course in Rugby will take place from 9 January 2016 – April 2017. It will be 11.15am – 12.30pm on Mondays at Overslade Community Centre. The course will proceed with a minimum of 4 participants and a maximum of 8. Exact course dates are: 9, 16, 23, 30 January and 6, 13, 27 February (with an intentional break for half term – no class 20 February), 6, 13, 20, 27 March and 3 April 2017. Please be aware there are no refunds for missed classes. Attending a missed week on a future class may be possible but the best results will be obtained by attending all 12 sessions.

Yoga for Healthy Lower Backs (YHLB) is a specialised, evidenced-based, 12 week course designed to give those with chronic or recurring low back pain a toolkit to improve and maintain a healthy back for life. This yoga is based on a successful large scale clinical trial, funded by Arthritis UK in conjunction with The University of York. It is gentle, effective, enjoyable, beginner-friendly, with small group classes (3-12 people maximum) and individualised support. It teaches and motivates health and well-being self-management. It was recently endorsed by the NICE guidelines. The positive results showing it to be safe and effective were published in the Annals of Internal Medicine (‘Yoga for Chronic Low Back Pain: A Randomized Trial’ H. Tilbrook, 2011). The Cost Evaluation in the Journal Spine (LH Chuang, 2012) showed it to be cost-effective for the NHS, society and the workplace. A social enterprise has been set up to allow more people to benefit from the same yoga programme used in this randomised controlled trial.

This course will be held 11.15-12.30pm on Mondays at Overslade Community Centre and consists of 12 x 75 minute classes comprising easy foundational yoga poses. Props such as a yoga block, blanket or belt are used to aid effectiveness and ensure absolute comfort. Payment can be split into two with £87.50 due prior to week one and the second payment of £87.50 due prior to week six.
